June 23, 2014

Alright hopefully I can remember all of the crazy things that happened this week.  It was one of the longest yet shortest weeks of my life.  We will start off with Monday.  Monday was pday and we basically shopped until we dropped, literally.  With me being sick I almost died shopping haha.  I almost wish that would have happened so I could put that on my obituary.  "She shopped until she dropped."
But it was a fun day and I  got some cute shirts AND we decided to buy a box hair color and dye my hair.  Which came out purple....  No joke.  And now after a week my hair is a light brown with red roots.  And I saw my mission president last night and he commented on what happened to my hair.  It was so embarrassing. Hence, today we will be fixing my hair.  Hopefully it will turn into the dark brown color that I wanted.  We will see.
Tuesday.  What a day.  This day I realized how sick I really have been the past few weeks.  It got to the point where my comps took me to the ER on Tuesday.  The past 3 weeks my body has been rejecting most of the food I eat and I have been throwing up almost everything.  So it got to the point where my body was completely malnourished and slowly shutting down.  In the ER they hooked me up to the IV and tried to get my body nourished again.  They said it was to the point where they were surprised that I wasn't passing out all the time and that I had made it so long already.  We were in the ER for over 3 hours trying to figure out what was wrong.  So most of the week we have been taking things slow.  My companions have been making me rest so that my body can hopefully heal itself.  Because the ER didn't find out what was wrong.  They just gave me the instructions to only drink ensure and take electrolyte tablets.  Hoping that my body will get nutrients again.  And then hopefully my body can begin to heal itself.  But honestly, stomach problems are a pretty common thing here in this mission.  Especially with the hispanic missionaries.  Man, the things we eat here at times are pretty crazy.  Of course it all tastes delicious but it slowly begins to kill your stomach.
You want an example?  The other day a member made us this pot of chicken legs in some kind of liquid.  And we took it home to have leftovers.  But after one day it turned into a pot of wax.  I am not exagerating here.  It solidified with the chicken legs in it because of all the fat and grease.  And Sister Encarnacion and I set it on fire haha.  It was wax.  Most of the sisters I know who are almost done with their missions suffer from weird stomach things.  I just started earlier then most of the missionaries.  But anyway, I am doing better and have more energy.  Sister Murdock(mission presidents wife) has been helping me figure out what is wrong.  And if I don't stop throwing up soon we will go back in to the ER and take some more tests. So no worries.  Plus I have a spaniard companion with a strong personality who loves me haha.  She will drag my to the hospital if even one thing seems wrong haha.  Thank goodness for her or I wouldn't have gone in the first place.
Besides sleeping and drifting around into a dream, this week we were invited to a special invitation only meeting on Thursday.  It is for the leaders of the mission and people who President wanted to come.  So it was weird that we went.  But it was amazing!  2 Brethren from church headquarters came and talked about how we can better our mission.  It was an all day meeting but so worth it.  I learned so much and am excited to put things into practice and become a better missionary.
As for investigators, we didn't have too many lessons this week because of all the crazy things happening.  But everyone is doing good and coming closer and closer to baptism.  And Gloria Cano just accepted a date for the end of July.  She says she is still not sure if it is true or not but wanted a date to be a goal.  A goal for her to look at and motivate her to truly find out if it is true.  We are excited and praying so hard for her.  And the woman Margarita came to church yesterday with her kids.  She really wants this for her life.  It will take some time with her because she smokes but already this gospel has blessed her life.  And yesterday we had to help with her kids in primary, her son noah has autism.  And he is super attached to me and would only go to primary if I went....  Which isn't what I should be doing as a missionary.  But we did it anyway so margarita could go to class and so noah would get used to his teacher for next week.  But it was super fun to be in a spanish primary and learn all of the cute songs!
Crazy week but I still love my mission more then anything!  I love the work and I love being able to build my testimony every day.  Truly the Lord's hand is in this area and we see so many miracles every single day.  And I love my companions and the people I work with.  And no worries, my body is getting healthier and I am doing good.
Thanks for all of the support and prayers I always have.  I love everyone so much!  Have a great week!

This week.  Lets see what happened this week.  Well first of all, on monday we were going to that ghetto amusement park.  But we found out that all of the good rides opened up at 6, which was after our pday ended.  And we were too big to ride the kiddy rides :( haha it was a very sad moment.  But our District had a blast walking around and taking pictures!  We got icees and cotton candy and it was so much fun.  I will have to send you pictures.
ALL of our investigators are getting ready for baptism!!!  We are so excited!!  Star still wants to be baptized but her work schedule has been crazy so we did not see her last week.  We are dying to talk to her again and see how she is doing.  Then we have a new investigator named Gloria.  She is 21, with a little baby, and her husband is in the middle east in the army.  She loves this gospel and wants to get baptized but her husband is not happy with that idea.  She tries to talk to him about the church and he just ends up hanging up the phone.  She doesn't want to go behind his back but she really wants to get baptized.  We are all praying that his heart will be softened and will be okay with her decision.  But you can't blame the poor guy.  He is clear across the world and has no control of what is going on in his family.
Then Ramona and Manuel are a couple.  Ramona understands this gospel and loves it.  Manuel still doesn't completely understand that this is the only true church.  BUT they are doing awesome and so close to baptism.  And we had a family home evening with the other Gloria at a members house.  It was great and the spirit was so strong.  And guess what?!  All of these people came to church on Sunday!  It was so amazing and one of the best Sundays ever!  Really, all of these people need to be baptized!  I just love this area, there are so many people who are prepared and I love having the privlidge to teach them.
Lets see, this week I have been pretty sick.  With some weird pains and random things.  No worries, everything is fine.  I am calling the doctor today to hopefully get in soon and see what is wrong.  But on Saturday I received a blessing.  And it was such a special blessing.  Truly, I don't know why the Lord keeps blessing me with things like this.  But I know without a doubt that He is my Father in Heaven and loves me so much.
I love serving with Hna. Encarnacion.  She is such a great example for me and we have a lot of fun together.  I truly do love her a lot.  I love my mission and love all of you!  Thanks for everything!!!
Love,

ANOTHER WEEK IN DENVER!!!  Ok, well first off I will tell you a little bit about our new trio.  Honestly I was a little worried haha.  That a trio wouldn't help the situation i was already in and that it would just complicate things worse.  Or that I would become an awkward 3rd wheel haha.  I can easily see that happening to me.  But I love what has happened.  So our new companion is Hermana Encarnacion!  She is the one who trained Hna McRae (my mtc comp) and she is basically the star of the mission.  No joke, she is the missionary that everyone wants to be and that has truly changed this mission so much with her hard work.  She is from Spain and everyone calls her the crazy spaniard haha.  Because she is a lot of fun but super bold.  She has no problem telling people how it is and what they need to do!  I love it!  Oh and everyone makes fun of her for her last name.  It is the same name as in Nacho Libre.  So EVERYONE sings to her that song and really the poor girl is the joke of the mission for it.  The elders always ask her to break her vows with them hahah.  But she just gets fired up and gives them a piece of her mind haha  It is so awesome to watch.  This is her last transfer in her mission and I get the privledge of killing her off hahaha.  I never thought I would be her companion and was a bit worried since she always seemed so great.  But I love this girl so much!! And It has only been like 5 days.  Our personalities just click and I think we will become really good friends!  and oh my goodness, she is the most gorgeous person I have ever met!  No joke.  It isn't fair haha.  Next week I will be sending TONS of pictures.  Because today we are going to this super sketchy and ghetto amusement park with our district.  I am so excited!
Anyway, this week has been pretty dramatic.  Sister Marley has had a hard time adjusting to the trio and she has been very sick.  And Hna. Encarnacion has a bunch of stomach problems and so do I.  So we are the trio of death I think.  But that doesn't stop us from working!!  We had some great lessons and we are teaching this 19 yr old girl named Star who is the cutest thing ever.  She loves this gospel so much and has such a hunger for it like ive never seen before.  She even invited her friends to come over and take the lessons with her.  And she wants to get baptized!!!  We are hoping it will happen on July 6th!  She really just wants to do everything possible to follow her Savior and return to the Celestial kingdom.  I will keep you updated on her.
Then that woman Gloria we have been teaching for awhile is finally really progressing!  She is so sweet and truly wants to know if this Gospel is true.  But she hold back a bit, which is just her personality.  but she has member friends and they are helping her a lot.  tonight we are actually having a family home evening at her friends house about the plan of salvation.  We want the spirit to be really strong and help her realize the blessings she can have in her family from this Gospel.
We truly have a lot of people who are very close to baptism.  This week because of being sick we didn't get to see too many of them.  This new week though we will be inviting ALL of them to be baptized!  So excited.
Lets see, nothing to scary happened here in Denver this week haha.  Just the normal drug deals and dealing with people on pot all of the time.  But I love being in Denver!  I love the people and I love this area I am serving in.  And I think these next 6 weeks are going to be awesome!  Oh, fun thing this week.  Hna encarnacion and I are super similiar and she loves the movie the Prince of Egypt.  And she has the soundtrack in spanish!  It is the greatest thing of my life.  So now I am learning all the words in spanish and we are having a blast singing it together!
I just realized that a lot of this email was about my new companion... can you tell that I like her just a bit haha.  No but it really will be a fun transfer with a lot of hard work and success.
Thanks for everything and I love all of you!!!
con amor,

June 2, 2014

This week was the last week of the transfer.  I cannot believe how fast these 6 weeks have gone by!  I truly will be home before I know it!  And it terrifies me haha!  I don't want to ever leave my mission!  (No offense to everyone back home)
Lets see, this week we had exchanges.  It was supposed to happen last week but because of the bed bug fiasco the other sisters decided to wait until the danger had passes.  Update on the bedbugs: WE ARE CLEAN!  But we did see some cockroaches and bedbugs crawling all around this apartment we visit on a regular basis.  And basically everywhere we go is pretty sketchy and worn down.  I honestly have so many funny stories of busting drug deals and being stopped by someone who is high.  It is always an adventure here in Denver.  Oh and scary experience, we have a woman who lives in this dungeon.  Literally a dungeon.  You walk down these stairs into a dark corridor with no escape.  And the aprtment next to Marta's is full of these cholos who think they run the neighborhood.  It was when we where on exchanges and had a 16 yr old YW coming with us to a lesson.  They were yelling really bad things at us and tried to block our path and get us to come in their apartment.  I felt so bad for Lily, the YW!  Usually we have things yelled at us but it never went this far as to them all right there cornering us.  But that fire came out of me and I was able to save the day.  Not that anything would have happened to us.  We have the Lord on our side always.
Anyway, back to exchanges.  I was with Sister Moser in our area while Sis Marley went to the other area.  I had so much fun with Sister Moser!  She is so incredible and I look up to her so much.  She was with me in Eagle and I feel so blessed to be serving with her again.  I want to be a missionary and person just like her.  But exchanges were great and it gave me the chance to relax a bit and just breathe.    Not much really happened this week.  This area is finally picking up and it was an awesome week!!   We have a lot of investigators and had the most lessons we have had in 6 wks!  I am really excited for this next transfer and for the changes we are going to see!
Oh and on Thursday we had an awesome training and interviews with President.  Usually they last only 15 min but mine was almost an hour..... um what does that mean haha.  President basically told me everything that was happening for transfers and the things he was going to need me to do.  Honestly it made me feel a little overwhelmed haha.  And put a lot of pressure on my back.  But I will do anything the Lord and my mission president asks me to do.  So this should be fun haha.  But we have been given a lot of great trainings with a lot of tools to improve our missionary work.
Our people are progressing and almost so ready for baptism!!  I couldn't be happier.
Oh and transfer news.... I am staying in Denver.  With Sister Marley.  Oh and we will be getting a 3rd companion.   Yeah, I am going to be in a trio.  This I am not too happy about.  Because it wasn't what was supposed to happen originally.    oh well
But it will be a great transfer!  I will make it great!  I love my mission and I love the Lord's work!  thanks for everything!!!
Love,
